Pepperoni Rolls: A WV Thing

Pepperoni Rolls

Every state seems to have some kind of signature dish and when we moved to West Virginia we learned fast what West Virginia’s claim to fame dish is – Pepperoni Rolls. Everywhere that we went we found some variation of them. Some had pepperoni sticks wrapped in biscuit dough, others had cheese and pepperoni slices in croissants, but my favorite was the slices of pepperoni wrapped in a light dough, like the dough used to make dinner rolls.

Pepperoni rolls have an interesting history. When Italian immigrants moved to West Virginia to work in the coal mines they needed to bring a lunch, preferably an Italian one, that was portable. They quickly created this Italian masterpiece that is now recognized as the state food and with good reason – they are amazingly delicious!

There are many different ways that pepperoni rolls can be made, but this is my favorite recipe because they’re light and the oil from the pepperoni releases into the dough giving it an amazing flavor. Add some cheese to the mix and you’ve got a snack that you won’t be able to say no to.

Pepperoni Rolls

I cheat a little when I make these, instead of making the dough from scratch I buy the dough out of the freezer section at Save A Lot.

All I have to do is place them on a baking sheet that has been coated with cooking spray and wait for them to rise.

Pepperoni Rolls

Once the dough rises all you have to do is top them with a few slices of pepperoni and

pepperoni rolls

some cheese, if you want. Then….

Pepperoni Rolls

fold the dough over the pepperoni and cheese and

Pepperoni Rolls

make sure that it is completely sealed shut.

Pepperoni Rolls

Flip it over and

Pepperoni Rolls

Place them on a cookie sheet that is coated with cooking spray. Cover with a clean dish towel and let them rise again. Once they’ve doubled in size bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Easily Remove Stickers or Labels from Plastic

Removing Stickers

The Fluster:

I’ve got this fabulous project that I worked on today, I’ll tell you all about it next week, it was super easy and took less than 20 minutes to complete. So your probably wondering what’s the Fluster? Well, it’s when I tried to make the container look pretty for the camera.

Have you ever tried removing stickers or labels from plastic? It sounds like an easy enough task, take off what you can, then soak in water and the label will peel right off. I wish!!!

Super glues got nothing on whatever they use to stick labels to these plastic containers.

When my brilliant idea to soak the label didn’t work, I turned to WikiHow, they offered 12 Ways to Remove Sticker Residue from plastic, I thought surely one of them would work.

After trying several of their suggestions, getting no results and ending up more flustered than I was before, I headed to the man cave, the garage, to see what I might find that would bust my fluster.

Removing Stickers

The Buster:

Behold, sitting on the shelf next to a roll of duct tape, was a can of WD-40. Why didn’t I think of that before tackling the WikiHow suggestions. Everyone knows WD-40 and Duct tape can fix anything, they even like to hang out together,

Removing Stickers

In just a matter of minutes, I’d say seconds but that would be a bit of an exaggeration my Fluster was busted.

I sprayed a small amount of WD-40 on the container and let it sit a couple of seconds.

Removing Stickers

Then I used a rag, that had a fairly rough texture, and wiped the area that I had sprayed.

Removing Stickers

In an instant, and with very little elbow grease, my fluster and the sticky reside were gone.

Now the container is pretty enough for pictures.

Face Cleaning Wipes (7)

Last week when I was showing you how to Easily Remove Labels from Plastic I told you that I had a super easy project that I would be sharing with you this week. Well here it is, All-in-One Facial Wipes.

I’ve seen homemade facial wipes all over the web, as I’m sure you have, and I have tried a lot of them, but through trial and error I’ve come up with what I think are the best yet. They not only clean your face, but they also help to repair blemishes, scarring and acne. The best part for me is that at the same time that I’m cleaning and repairing my skin I’m also moisturizing and slowing down the wrinkling process. Yay!!!

With the other homemade facial wipes that I’ve tried, you had to find a thick enough paper towel, cut it in half, find a container that was pretty enough to display in the bathroom and hope that they didn’t mold. With these facial wipes, all you need is a few simple ingredients and a tub of baby wipes.

Baby wipes you say, yes, I figured why invent the wheel if you don’t have to, if they’re gentle enough for a babies bottom then why not your face. Most of the baby wipes these days contain vitamin E and Aloe, which we all know are good for the skin, they’re hypoallergenic, they’re thick and come in an attractive container. With the addition of a few more ingredients you’ve got the perfect facial wipe.

As for the mold, have you ever had a tub of baby wipes get moldy? Me either! Even with the addition of a few ingredients, I’ve never had these facial wipes develop mold.

Skincare Products

This is what you’ll need:

  • Baby Wipes (unscented, with vitamin E and Aloe)
  • Distilled Water
  • Green Tea
  • Baby Shampoo
  • Witch Hazel
  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Baby Oil Gel

This is what you’ll do:

  1. Boil the water. Because I like to multi-task, I’ll boil it in the microwave, the steam loosens up anything stuck and makes it easy to wipe out.Skincare Products
  2. Steep the tea bag for 5 minutes. This is when I wipe out the microwave.Skincare Products
  3. Stir in the baby shampoo, witch hazel, glycerin and gel. Let it cool.Skincare Products
  4. Pour the mixture over the baby wipes.Skincare Products
  5. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then flip the tub upside down for another 30 minutes. This helps to evenly saturate the baby wipes.

These are the benefits:

  • Distilled Water. Leaves skin looking and feeling cleaner without all of the impurities found in tap water.
  • Green Tea. Contains antioxidants which helps to ward off skin cancer and signs of aging. It also helps prevent wrinkles, tones the skin, and reduces the redness caused by rosacea.
  • Baby Shampoo. Gentle on the skin, helps remove make up without causing tears, hypoallergenic,.
  • Witch Hazel. Removes oil, make up, dirt, and dead skin cells. Helps to restore your skins PH balance. Treats acne and blemishes, soothes skin, tightens pores, moisturizes and reduces wrinkles.
  • Vegetable Glycerin. It’s 100% pure and hypoallergenic. It moisturizes, cleans, tones and softens. Treats acne and reduces wrinkles.
  • Vitamin E. Contains antioxidants that help to reduces wrinkles and scarring and also lightens age spots. It also cleans, helps to remove makeup and moisturizes.
  • Aloe. Helps to treat acne and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It also removes makeup, tightens pores, moisturizes, lightens age spots, and brightens skin.
  • Baby Oil. Gentle on the skin, helps to remove makeup, cleans and brightens, removes makeup, firms and tones, and moisturizes.
